THERAPY THAT FITS YOUR BRAIN

Neurodivergent-Affirming Care

A lot of therapy is built around one idea of what "normal" looks like. If your brain doesn't work that way, it can leave you feeling like something's wrong with you. It's not. You don't need to mask, perform, or translate yourself into someone else's framework to be understood here.

What this looks like in practice

  • No assumption that eye contact, stillness, or "typical" emotional expression equals engagement

  • Flexibility in how we communicate. If talking in a straight line isn't how your thoughts move, that's fine

  • No pathologizing traits that are just part of how you're wired

  • Space to talk about burnout, masking, sensory overwhelm, or executive functioning struggles without judgment

  • Affirming care that intersects with trauma, identity, and the other parts of who you are. You're not just "the neurodivergent client." You're a whole person

Why this matters to me?

I'm neurodivergent myself, and that shapes how I show up in this work. I'm not here to "fix" the way your brain processes the world. I'm here to help you understand it, work with it, and stop measuring yourself against a standard that was never built for you.

This isn't a specialized clinical program for any one diagnosis. It's a lens I bring to everything we do together: trauma work, identity work, relationships, all of it.

Who this is for?

This work isn't about diagnosing or specializing in any one condition including ADHD, autism, OCD, TBIs, bipolar, schizophrenia, etc. It's for anyone who already knows (or suspects) they think differently, and wants a therapist who won't make that something to manage or hide.

A note on diagnosis

Great Winds Counseling does not provide formal diagnostic testing for ADHD or autism. My work with you is about support, understanding, and affirming care, not assessment. If you're interested in or considering formal testing, I'm happy to provide referrals to qualified specialists who can help with that process.

What sessions look like?

We'll go at whatever pace and structure works for your brain including breaks, written follow-ups if that helps, or letting conversations move non-linearly. All sessions are telehealth, so you can do this work from an environment that's already comfortable for you.
